The cases of Covid-19 still continues to rise but the weather is more like Spring, in fact today (Sunday) has been very warm around 20 degrees C. Govt very concerned at groups of people going out and not observing the rules. Understandably he has threatened to not allow outdoor exercise if it continues. Come on people, tow the line!
In my role as Chairman of the Maidstone Leisure Trust I have a role to support the NHS and Mai BC in a project to use the Leisure Centre as an assessment area. This will be for those with the virus or symptoms, who have other issues which necessitate seeing their GP. By going for assessment at the Leisure Centre they will avoid carrying the virus to GP surgeries.
On Friday I spent 2 hrs on a conference call with NHS CCGs GPs MaiBC and Serco. Permission was sought from NHS to use the LC as a facility. This was agreed and this weekend marquees have been erected in the car park and tomorrow the equipment is being set up. I will attend to observe and also lend a hand. The Hot Hub as it is called will commence receiving patients on Tuesday. Some of our Rotary Club members and others have volunteered to act as car park stewards. They will be well away from the assessment area, however, very brave of those who have offered. To be completely safe, volunteers must be between 18 and 70 and have no underlying issues. So my only contribution will be to help tomorrow before patients arrive.
I got called to Mum today as her TV and lifeline power had packed up. Strangely, I found that all the wall sockets in the lounge had failed. No trip switches operated and the sockets in the rest of the flat OK. I set up my extension lead and re-routed cables making sure they were taped down where necessary. Hopefully, C&C will organise an electrician tomorrow.
On a much lighter note yesterday, Mum joined in with other residents keeping fit each in front of their own flat. Video won’t play on this site but I can say she did pretty well for an almost 95 yr old. Tonight our 93 yr old Queen addressed the nation on TV. Moving speech, only the 5th one in her reign. This pandemic is really serious.
