After the excitement of my run on Wednesday I had a gentle morning yesterday doing the housework. Much safer pastime. In the afternoon I had a Zoom meeting to attend but like on Tuesday it failed to work. With help from a colleague I downloaded Microsoft Team, which worked fine. So after the meeting I went for my shorter Linton X roads run. This piled on a few more feet of elevation and for a few moments I was top of the leaderboard. I have slipped to second now, but hey! whose counting?

Very tired today, probably because of three days of running but also worrying about Mum and her future. Having heard from Barty House that Mum had come out of quarantine and had settled somewhat and joined others in the canteen for lunch and spent some time in the lounge area. So thinking the time was now right I contacted Barty to set up FaceTime with Mum. This would be my first contact with her since she went into the home.

For whatever reason they couldn’t set up FaceTime but I received a call to say I could speak to Mum on the phone. Unfortunately, Mum was having one of her classic headache days and everything was wrong. She was very confused, thought she was still confined to her room and several other inaccuracies. I was very upset and Sue took over the call. Afterwards I rang Barty to see if someone could calm her, perhaps take her for a walk or spend some time with her. I had a reply soon after that Mum was sitting in the lounge having coffee and seemed very calm. It has left me feeling sad and upset that my call appears to have had a negative effect on Mum. However, she is being very well looked after and is in the safest place.

Went to Mum’s flat and cleaned the fridge and freezer. everything appears OK there.

Sue and I went for a late afternoon walk around Loose including Bluebell Wood which I discovered the day before yesterday after the tree incident. It lifted my spirits and that was enhanced when we returned home to find an answerphone message from Laura at Barty House. She wanted to re-assure me that Mum was OK and they had been for a walk around the gardens and chatted a lot about the old days. Why do I worry?! Thank you Laura, so far I have to say that the staff have been brilliant.

Off to see the family at Reading tomorrow. In the garden and 2m apart but at least we will see them all, it’s been a long time.

Bit too late for Bluebells!
