Hottest day of the year today, 34 degrees here, 35 at Heathrow. Some talk that it was near 38 in some places in the South making it 3rd hottest ever recorded.A bit of rain tonight and temperatures lower tomorrow, pleasant 25 degrees so I am off for another ride with Mike. Sue went for a ride today with friend Maggie, but it was very hot so they kept it short.
My training day off so I got up early to register for a place in next year’s Castle to Coast triathlon. Fortunately, I was accepted so I have exactly one year to train for this half ironman event. It is an endurance event and not a competition. A 1.2 mile swim in Eton Dornay lake, 67 mile bike ride over the Surrey hills to near Ditching Beacon then a 13.1 mile run up the Beacon and then cross country to Brighton sea front. It will be my first half marathon in around 40 years, so a lot of work to do over the year. Who knows what next year will bring, but at least it gives me a focus for my training.
Yesterday I managed a short swim in the pool but my dental appointment has established that I need my remaining wisdom tooth removed. Heavy decay in the tooth which has impacted on the neighbouring tooth and also led to last week’s infection. I have been referred to Maidstone Hospital as they will need to do CT Scans and I may have decay in the jaw bone. So I will need to have the tooth removed there. No idea when I get the appointment, but that will put pay to early training and probably our holiday.
Holiday is looking less likely now as Spain has increased Covid cases and UK has started to rise again. This has led today to Boris postponing some easing that he had planned. Weddings for example can now only have 6 guests in open air. It was only announced this afternoon and many weddings have had to cancel or postpone. More use of face masks especially in the North West which has got special arrangements in place due to a spike in cases there.
I did however, manage to get Viv in to see Mum on Sunday, which we are pleased about, after that it is only me to visit for the foreseeable future.
