Today it was my turn to visit Mum. With the new rules it will be me from now on as the constant visitor. This is the home’s policy based on Govt Guidance. Fortunately, Viv was able to visit last Sunday, Les the week before and Sue the week before that, so it is my first visit for a month.

Some trepidation on arrival because my previous visit had brought about 10 minutes of Mum being really upset, not about the home but more about her general malaise over her age and related condition.

This time I was greeted initially with a similar dramatic response but within a couple of minutes we were able to talk feely for the remainder of the visit. Today was the start of a heatwave so we were able to talk about that and then I gave her a letter from her cousin Kathryn in Scotland. She was clearly pleased to receive it and was grateful to Kathryn, but she asked to read it properly back at her room, which I am sure she has done.

I also took her in one of her old small photo albums that I think Malc gave her years ago. It had plenty of “old” faces in which Mum managed to name them all.

Afterwards I had a chat with Debbie the Admin Manager about a few matters of concern.

As a result:

We might soon be able to get her ears and hearing aids cleaned by Halima who used to do it when Mum was in the flat. Unfortunately, Barty do not have their own specialist for that so I will have to pay Halima separately. It might be a while as Covid arrangements will need to be agreed before a visit can go ahead.

Chris the handyman, located our suitcase which I now have at home.

They couldn’t find the fan we gave them so they found another one and Mum now has that in her room, which will be really helpful this week during the heatwave.

I confirmed my next visits for the 16th and 19th August.

…and I was told the bird feeder we bought for her is now in place on her window, however, Mum appears to not be aware of it!

I like to keep them on their toes! But overall a good visit.
