Another 30 degree plus day. The boys surprisingly slept reasonably well in our Shelterbox tent and Ollie slept in his own deluxe fishing tent. Fortunately we had booked well in advance for our kayaks at BodiumBoating on the River Rother. We set of relatively early and spent the morning swimming and jumping into the river. Needless to say it was busy but nothing like the hordes that were crowding on the beaches, spreading the virus.

We had a great hour on the boats, the boys spending as much time in the river as on their kayaks. Great fun for us all. Beers and ice creams afterwards and then home for a healthy meal that Sue knocked up.

Today seemed even hotter, but again the boys slept OK in the tent. After a slow breakfast we decided to walk to South Park so the boys could skateboard. I decided that we would do a practice walk with the Shelterbox trailer which was used to carry the skateboards and a large number of water bottles. It was a useful exercise and Ollie was helping with useful suggestions on how to modify the trailer. I might even get round to trying them.

At the park we met Steve Beale and his two boys, Stuart hadn’t met him for many years so we all had a nice chat whilst the boys burned up some energy in the skatepark.

Back home we ordered pizzas for an early lunch then all of a sudden our house looked civilised once again as the Woodley gang set off home. We had a message from Nat that they were safely home so all was well and it was time for a quiet hour in the garden for Sue and I, each with a G&T, very nice.

Stuart and family were missing their trip to Spain, but with weather like this they weren’t complaining. Spain now has the greatest rise in Europe of virus cases, so now we are 99.9999 % sure we won’t be going this year.

We have a break tomorrow and then on Wed, James and Alex will be with us for 4 nights. Unfortunately, the heatwave is due to break when they arrive and thunderstorms are predicted. Not sure if the boys will want to sleep in the tent if the storms arrive. Still I am sure we will find plenty for them to do.
