At Sue’s request we visited Hastings for a long walk along the front taking in lung fulls of oxygen and ozone in the fresh virus free air. Hastings has one of the lowest number of reported Covid cases in the Country. Nobody knows why really, but it might be the ozone from the sea breeze but why then has Thanet got the highest count in Kent! Doesn’t make sense. What we did notice though, everyone was taking great care to be socially distanced and being very careful and there were plenty of Hastings BC notices reminding people. In a public toilet I visited, every other urinal was taped up as required and over the one I used the notice stated “no more than one person to use the urinal at a time” I can only guess that in Hastings some of thmen in Hastings are really friendly!

Our friend Mary is having a bit of a rough time at the moment so Sue invited her to join us today, Technically we exceeded the maximum number by one but we were extra careful on distancing. From the old town we walked along to St Leonards and back. It was lovely afternoon, th sea was quite rough in the breeze but there were plenty of surfers out paddle boarding the waves. There was also group of sea swimmers who were dancing on the prom presumably warming up after their swim. They were in t shirts and shorts, it certainly did not seem like a November day.

Back at the old town I bought the girls a special treat of take away fish and chips from the Mermaid. I know how to treat a lady on her birthday! The freshly cooked haddock was delicious and the gulls had to be kept at a distance, which wasn’t easy. At home the birthday girl sank into a chair with several glasses of wine. Tomorrow she tells me she will sort out the many pressies and cards she has received. She has really enjoyed her day. So lockdown does have it’s advantages, if it had been a normal day I would have had to splash out on a luxurious meal at a posh restaurant. Sadly they are all closed!

I checked Mum’s care plan. Another good day. Apparently one of the carers used to live near Mum so they had a good natter. She also joined in a sing along. However, by the evening it was reported that she was wandering around the building. Well that’s OK she just doesn’t like to miss anything, Bless her!
