Great excitement today as all the schools re-opened. It is the first stage in the gradual lifting of precautions. Schools appear to be very prepared and at least one rolled out a red carpet surrounded by balloons and bubbles for the kids to walk down. Our neighbour Headteacher Ben, was on local telly again, this time with his other school West Kingstown. He was interviewed about the school arrangements and they also spoke to teachers and some children. When we do our Shelterbox event in June we will visit that school after starting at Ben’s other school in Swanley. Our grandchildren have all reported a great day at school. James even had an hour and a half of hockey! Relief as well for Stuart and Mike who can now get on with some work.
Yesterday most care homes opened up to one visitor per resident. Some variation in precautions but a lot of releif by relatives who were able to see a Mum or Dad for the first time indoors for a year. My turn tomorrow, at 11.00 am as long as my Covid Test is negative.
Sue and I did our third vaccine duties in a row this morning. Mainly 2nd jabs so it was slow but the system worked OK. Now I have the rota to do for this coming weekend, Saturday and Sunday. Nationally they are now calling for 55 to 60 year olds so we are doing well with the roll out. I checked Facebook in our Spanish area and they are still waiting for over 80’s to be called. We could end up with UK allowing us to travel by September but Spain not ready to receive us. We shall have to wait and see.
This afternoon I took my summer bike, the carbon one, for a short 15 mile ride. Apart from school traffic getting in my way it was great to be out on my faster bike. It needs a service before I do my big ride in July but it is running OK at the moment. Running seems to be the family thing at the moment. Danny has been doing some fast 10kms and Mike is trying to beat him. Not a chance. I did however, top our club leadership board for my elevation work this week, 2,560 ft climbing.
Tonight ITV are showing what is already the infamous Ophira Winfrey interview with Megan and Harry. Sue says I have to watch it or I won’t be informed to comment. I don’t want to comment, but I probably will!
